About the apps
Free and without ads. No account needed, except for the AI assistant in ControlFreak and for organisers in ControlFreak Live.
Built on open packages: controlfreak-design and orienteering-formats are shared by all the apps, open source on GitHub.
Made by Henrik and Hugo Flordal, orienteers in Katrineholm and Söderhamn, Sweden.

Frequently asked questions
Is it free?
Yes. All the apps are free and without ads. No account is needed, except for the AI assistant in ControlFreak and for organisers in ControlFreak Live. Organisers sign in with a code sent by email; for the AI assistant, write to us with Send feedback and you will get an account.
Where does my data go?
It stays in your browser. Maps, courses, events, start lists and GPS tracks are kept on your computer or phone and are never uploaded by themselves. Only what you send yourself leaves it, for example to Eventor or to the people putting out the controls. The results an organiser uploads to ControlFreak Live are shown openly there.
Does it work with SportIdent, Purple Pen and IOF XML?
Yes. ControlFreak opens OCAD and OpenOrienteering Mapper maps and exports the courses as IOF XML, Purple Pen or PDF. ControlFreak Event reads courses from ControlFreak, Purple Pen or IOF XML, and reads SportIdent cards with a reader connected to a computer in Chrome or Edge, or to an Android tablet in Chrome. ControlFreak Start reads IOF XML start lists from Eventor.
Which app do I need?
The course setter uses ControlFreak. Whoever organises an event runs it in ControlFreak Event, with ControlFreak Start as the clock at the start. A runner training on a course with a QR code uses ControlFreak Run. In ControlFreak, an AI assistant such as Claude can also set courses. Whoever gets a new version of the map sees in ControlFreak Diff what has changed. Spectators and runners follow the results in ControlFreak Live.
Does it work without a connection?
Yes, once the app has been loaded. ControlFreak, ControlFreak Event, ControlFreak Start and ControlFreak Run then work without coverage, in the forest or at the event centre. A connection is needed to fetch from Eventor, to upload results and for the AI assistant in ControlFreak.
